With silent page turning, the digital tablet is appropriate during performances, and it sets up on its music stand or rests on a piano. You can scan sheet music to a computer and transfer it to the tablet, purchase and download over 85,000 scores from an online store, or transfer scores in PDF and JPG formats or from music software.

Now in Japan there is a new trend for cell phone accessories: covers in clothes shape. Those new covers have sleeves and zippers and look very funny.

Okay, I see a lot of designs. But none I would ever want to own myself. I think you probably don't want a cover for your calling device, but if you should ever get yourself one, what kind of cover would that have to be?

A Japanese recording engineer has developed the world's first glass CD guaranteed not to warp, distort and of a beautiful design, according to its maker.

Music critics who have tried out the CD said that it's outstanding and virtually like listening to a live performance.

But high quality music to last forever comes at a price -- 98,700 yen apiece to be exact -- as glass CDs have to be made by hand.

Scroll Pan - Roll-up Frying Pan

The Scroll Pan designed by Sam Hextall was created for the specific purpose of providing a usable cooking surface that could also be reduced in size for easy storage. This concept is a cutting board that has an integrated scale within a defined area on it's surface. This allows a person to both cut and measure ingredients on the same surface with very little extra effort. Simply put, it precisely reduces the steps of preparation, dishes to clean, and time wasted.

One Click Butter Cutter

Ten years ago, in 1996, I had the feeling that it would be quite convenient to be able to reach into the refrigerator with one hand and take out a device, a Butter Cutter, and be able to squeeze off a couple of slices quickly before ones muffin might cool or maybe to add to the frying pan quickly while in the midst of doing all the other things that have to be done while cooking.

It was a simple idea that turned out to be very hard realize. In fact it took 5 years, some fairly expensive equipment and over 60 prototypes to develop a Butter Cutter that would work well.

Time to throw out your iPod Shuffles…

Check out the new Apple 1 GB Shuffle Metal priced at $79.99 on Pre-Order over at Amazon. It looks pretty slim and metal-ly alluring…MP3 nirvana for your thumbs indeed. It just got posted up on the Amazon site on 12 Sept 2006. Too bad this 1.00 pound baby will only ship in the US from the Amazon site for now…Sigh

We've managed to get our hands on some live shots of a prototype Black Diamond smartphone, a handset that's gained publicity not because of its feature set (WM5, 400MHz CPU, WiFi, quad-band GSM) or its design, but thanks to a $300,000 bank-busting pricetag and an exclusive five unit manufacturing run. Subtlety and style seems to be the main theme here, with the designers avoiding the obvious temptation to stick thousands of diamonds on the case.

iPod Digital Drumsticks

These motion-activated drumsticks allow you to drum along with songs from a connected iPod or similar music device with an audio output. The control module clips to a belt and has a cable for your iPod and another audio output for connecting to a stereo system or headpones for silent play.

Both sticks have buttons that allow you to play combinations of different drum or cymbal effects, including a snare drum, bass drum, tom, floor tom, hi-hat, and crash cymbal. Can also be played without musical accompaniment by using one of the six included background rhythms.

Coolest Cell Phone Gadget around - MoPods

We've seen some weird and wonderful mobile phone accessories in our time but MoPods really take the biscuit. Why? Well for starters these funky little wearable characters live in transparent domes. But more importantly, they spin and flash when your mobile receives a call or text.

Incoming call!

Yes, we know it sounds a bit silly but MoPods aren't half as daft as those Bluetooth headsets favoured by middle-management morons. And if you hate missing calls, MoPods are infinitely more imaginative than a deafening 'I'm wacky, I am!' comedy ringtone. (And that includes the 24 CTU one, the theme from Grange Hill and the music from Austin Powers. Yawn).

Lexus Self Parking Car Video and Review

Lexus invited Gizmodo along for a ride in the new LS 460 L super rich guy sedan. The thing is packed to the gills with tech. In fact, I'd call it the most geeked-out car evar, next to the Tesla.

But even the Tesla car can't park itself. Explanation of how the Advanced Parking Guidance System works, information on how this thing rips CDs, and other e-goodies, after the jump.

Here's how it works.

An urban basketball backpack that combines functionality and creativity. The basketball is not only stored, but also becomes an inherent design element.

Thursday, it was Apple's turn in the doghouse. The company announced it was recalling nearly 2 million laptop computer batteries out of concern that they may overheat and catch fire. Last week, you'll recall, Dell recalled 4.1 million laptop batteries. No surprise here. The computers use essentially the same batteries, which are manufactured by Sony. The only surprise is this: Where are all the other laptop computer makers that use Sony batteries? Their day in the negative PR light will come soon.

Apple's announcement in a strange way takes the heat off Dell, confirming that the overheating problem is not exclusive to Michael Dell's notebooks. In fact, it's not exclusive to laptops. The problem of exploding gadgets and volatile battieres has been quietly festering for years.

Japanese toilets are something very special. Everything is raised automatically, the seat is heated and there's even a small Karcher at 180bar (ok, maybe not 180, but it's powerful) for the more intimate parts. And now there is an SD slot and an MP3 player!!!

Fear not, it's not integrated into the seat but rather in the control system/computer of the toilet that is situated on the wall!

Old records go in, CDs come out

Maybe you still maintain a turntable and cassette deck, which you use to listen to your tunes just as you have for decades. If that's your situation, congratulations; you may skip to the next article.

But it's more likely that you've been staring at those piles of records and tapes and wondering if there's some easy way to transfer them to shiny new CDs. You imagine how nice it would be to have your music collection on convenient compact discs that can play in your car, home stereo or portable CD player--without having to buy them all over again.

The answer is yes: There is now a single machine, the Teac GF-350, that can turn your records into CDs.

Cooking Audio Player

With the convergence of future kitchen and living area, activities like cooking, dinning and entertainment will happen in one place. As a result, this place would be filled with many consumer electronics as well as kitchenware.

Therefore, the convergence of kitchenware and consumer electronics may create great opportunities to fulfill our future needs as well as keep our place tidy. “Cooking Audio Player” is designed for this purpose.

Million Dollar Fishing Lure

We've heard about diamond-encrusted earphones, a million-dollar cellphone spangled with glitter, an MP3 player of diamonds and gold and even a Kodak V570 digital camera festooned with $20,000 worth of shiny rocks. But this one takes the cake, the million-dollar fishing lure from MacDaddy's Fishing Lures.

It's made of three pounds of gold and platinum, and encrusted with 100 carats of diamonds and rubies—4753 stones in all. It's over a foot long, and is designed for big-game fishermen who are looking to hook the next Moby Dick. Or something.

A human-scale display mounted in the kitchen that represents the activities happening in the kitchen in real-time. Also, a cutting board with an integrated scale within a defined area on it's surface, using "electronic ink" display technology.

Both concepts are only a few of the design entries for the International kitchen & Environment Design Competition 2006.

I think it would look great in my home. But wouldn't be funnier if they made something similar to this idea to install in your bedroom?

Minority report

Alcohol and road-use don’t mix, and tens of thousands of human beings a year are maimed or killed due to alcohol-impaired drivers. So if you’re regularly going to drink and drive, which many of us do, then the very least you can do as a responsible human being is to ensure your blood alcohol content is below the legal limit.

We’ve already written up the fascinating stand-alone Sobercheck breathalyser and we recently wrote about the LG Breathalyzer mobile phone. Well now there’s a wristwatch with a built-in breathalyser set to hit the market later this month.

I have to admit that I am not that much of a iMac fan, but this concept see through design is something I really like...a lot.

SquidSoap

Wouldn't it be great if someone could invent a simple, fun way to teach our children to wash their hands? The wait is over with SquidSoap.

SquidSoap is a fun soap dispenser designed for teaching children healthy hand washing habits.

SquidSoap works by applying a small ink mark on a person's hand when they press the pump to dispense the soap. The ink is designed to wash off after the hands are washed for about15-20 seconds, which is the time recommended by most doctors.

The Douchaise

The Douchaise is a chair which unfolds to become a fully functional shower with air supported walls. The shower's base houses a blower, water heater, pump and filter which recycles water to reduce actual usage. The structure fully inflates to form the shower walls in just 2 minutes. Inside are two rooms, one for showering (the wet room) and one for undressing and drying off (the dry room).

SoniCoumn is an interactive sound installation that can be played by a person’s touch. The installation takes the form of a column-like cylinder, of a height that does not quite reach the ceiling but just high enough for one’s reach. Grids of LEDs installed inside the column light themselves on by the users’ touch and emit unique sounds. When a user cranks the handle, the column slowly rotates itself and plays the light patterns of the user’s touch.

So word going around late this week was that the Zune, better known as Microsoft's supposed iPod killer, is slated to ship without support for video. Yeah, you heard that right. According to a report on from the New York Post, "Microsoft called up some content providers and said the video portion of its Zune device... was being delayed." (The other juicy tidbit was that they'd have ad-supported downloads, but that's still unsubstantiated as far as we know.) Microsoft's Zune PR, of course, provided us with the following statement with regards to the story: "We do not have product details to share at this time and as such cannot comment on rumors or speculation."

The BevWizard® Wine Enhancer is an ingeniously designed pouring device that improves many youthful red and white wines.

The BevWizard works especially well on young, tannic red wines and significantly oaked white wines. These tannic, astringent wines are made softer and fruitier, with less bitterness particularly on the “finish”. As tannic wine passes through the high-intensity magnetic field in the pouring spout, the structure of the tannins is rapidly altered, yielding a softer, silkier mouthfeel. Wine is made to taste softer and fruitier as if it had been further bottle aged. This effect makes wines less aggressive and more palatable.

To ensure the comfort and safety of your cat, we strongly advise against using the Litter-Robot in unsupervised, automatic mode for kittens or small cats weighing less than 5 pounds. Due to their low weight, kittens and small cats will not activate the cat sensor.

You can, however, start the Litter-Robot cleaning cycle manually by plugging in the power cord when the litter bed needs to be cleaned and then unplugging the power cord again once the cycle has been completed. You can continue this manual "supervised" mode until your kittens have gained sufficient weight to activate the cat sensor. In this way, you still enjoy the benefit of not having to scoop the litter box by hand.

I used to have a room mate who referred to drawer at the bottom of the fridge as "The Rotter," as it was the place we would put our produce after coming home from market only to forget about it until it had rotted past its usefulness. This is why I like the design of the Still Life wall-mounted fruit holder from the UMAMY Design Groups 2003 collection.

The iPhone rumors have always been the juiciest of all the Apples. There are the fake ads, the idea that Apple would buy palm, and of course, the gallery of Fark'

d images we posted a few months back. Now, we might have our first taste of something more substantial than the usual fanboy-tasies. A zealot over at the Appleinsider forums dug through the latest iTunes code, and found references to a phone using the iPod OS.

The 007 USB Flash Drive is a small dust- and waterproof USB stick with multiple data security functions: the housing of the memory unit is made of stainless steel, equipped with a combination lock protecting the lid from unwanted removal, and the entire stick from loss by using an anti-theft cable made of steel.

Sumo Pillow

This super-sized pillow by Sumo is the ultimate solution for all your relaxing needs. We've come up with 10 ways to use it, but some people say we lack imagination!

It's a crash mat, lounge chair, loveseat or floor pillow to name a few, but the possibilities really do go on.

I think I would like to have one, and I would love to try and come up with at least thrity more ways to use it. I just haven't found out yet if they ship them to Europe as well....

You no longer have an excuse to lie-in on a Sunday morning and not cook your own breakfast (gasp!). With the the Eiko, any idiot can cook an egg to perfection. Simply hang the Eiko over the edge of the pan of boiling water and pop in your egg. You can remove the egg using the Eiko handle so you don’t burn your fingers and even eat out of the handle which doubles as an egg cup.

Candy Scabs

Totally gross! You know what we're talking about. You've skinned your elbow while crashing your bicycle getting extreme over a gnarly jump in your neighborhood. You cry to your mommy and she gently places a bandage over the bloody spot. Two days later, you peel back the bandage to re-assess the damage.

That same spot is now oozy in the middle and crusty at the edges! SO NASTY! You know you want to lick that puss spot.... don't deny it.... and now you can.... with Candy Scabs!

Dutchman devises floating bed

sleep piece of furniture faces gravitation with magnets

The time of pieces of furniture which stand simply on the ground is beyond. Architect Janjaap Ruijssenaars worked the past six years for the development of Floating bed.

Floating bed lived its world first with the presentations of the scale model (1.5) on the Miljonaire fair in Kortrijk and the 100% in June 2006 design grants in Rotterdam. The concept and the different uses have been registered and have been protected by designer Janjaap Ruijssenaars.

The bed can carry magneetgebruik 900 kilos. Four thin staalkabeltjes keep the object inert at his place and form the only contact with the ground. Normally said can a magnetic field erase a bank pass, but for that is the field according to the architect negligible small.

You want there one, then you must save, however, just as. For the scale model the price approximately 115,000 euro are and for complete can lay down you 1,200,000 euro.

Desk clutter is a pain, especially if you're a fan of gadgetry. You know what we're talking about: you've got the iPod, the cell phone, the PDA, some USB drives, a bunch of loose batteries, some pens, et cetera, et cetera, and all that stuff is just scattered about your workspace. Clean it up and look (arguably) cool doing it with the Harry Jr., a strange mess of bendable wires that will hold your toys in its creepy grip until you release them from its alien clutches.

TV-B-Gone baseball hat

The necessity for turning off that damned TV begot the TV-B-Gone; raucously loud neighborly TV watching and mischievous housemates gave birth to the TV-B-Gone sniper rifle; but a cold, mean spirit is behind the TV-B-Gone baseball hat, sure to surreptitiously switch off tellies at bars the nation over until word gets out to arm oneself with the TV-B-Gone blocker, and flip up everyone's bills the next time the game goes out mid-play. Make and use one caps of these at your own risk, friends, as you may find yourself headed home from the bar hatless as well as toothless.

I have no idea if the Yoda backpacks are really for sale somewhere. It's just a picture that I have of him. But wouldn't it be nice to have this Star Wars hero on your back where ever you go? And do they have a Chewbacca too? Or a C3PO? Or wait, wait, I would like a Princess Leia!

We love fun, implausible concept designs as much as the next guy, but this one in particular seems kind of far-fetched. The "Nokia Open" is/would be a cell phone that opens like a fan with a "scrollable touch screen," which seems to be an essential-yet-nonexistent item that would need to be invented in order for this to work.

The Daddle

Little Kaspey may be too small for Big Johnny to let him ride, but in a few years this Daddle is going to be mighty useful in the Biggs house.

The Daddle—is it dad + saddle or dork + saddle—lets fathers strap it on their back to give kids two to six a daddy-back ride. There's a "soft saddle horn and adjustable stirrups" to complete the horsey feel.

The saddle is available for $50 and kneepads for $32, since you're not a young man anymore.

Electricity and water is usually a combination that people like to avoid, but Metalarte doesn't seem to think so. They have designed a fancy waterproof lamp that will float and make any swimming pool the most happening place this summer. The lamps are rechargeable and constructed of waterproof polyethylene to keep all of the pool-goers alive. Downside? Each one costs around $450. read more

Mobile devices are becoming more and more intelligent – allowing users to watch movies on a mobile phone or laptop, or navigate with a PDA – but at the same time they require increasing amounts of power. To prevent the PC screen from suddenly going black, or the music from being interrupted, Fraunhofer researchers are working on micro power engineering solutions to provide the mobile power needed by modern communications devices. The latest examples of their work can be seen at the Hanover Trade Fair in Hall 2/Stand D22, "Signposts to tomorrow's markets."
